How to Avoid the "Summertime Slump" | Black and Married With ...

We still have a few more weeks left in the Summer. Some more than others, depending on your where you live. It brings me so much joy to know that my kids have had a fantastic Summer in the South ? playing with their cousins, meeting new friends and even acquiring a bit of a Southern accent (too cute). What they?ve also acquired is preparation of their next year?s school work and constant review of last year?s work as well. We do this to keep them out of the ?Summertime Slump? that so many school-age children get into because us as parents, much like our children, are so happy when the school year ends! Whew!

According to one of my favorite authors, Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu, there is a 3 year gap between blacks and other students. Many people love to believe it?s due to income, fatherlessness, educational attainment of the parent and lack of parental involvement. He believes that a major reason for the gap between our brown children and their counterparts, is that we continue to close school for the Summer. He broke it down like this: If you multiply 3 months (that they?re out for Summer) by 12 years (of formal education) you will see the 3 year gap and our babies are behind their peers. The same ones that will be competing for that same scholarship one day. Astonishing!

Unfortunately (according to my children), they have school in our home, year round. We use Kumon to supplement their education with hopes that they will get and remain ahead of the curve for their grade. Yes, even in the Summer. Even more so because they are not in school everyday. We?re also hopeful that this creates great ?educational hygiene? and they become lovers of learning! Although, right now, they are not enjoying the Summer Reading List, nor the worksheets, nor the on-line quizzes. But, as my parents told me when I was younger ? They will thank us later.

The way that Dr. Kunjufu explains this to us, alarms me because our babies are just as smart and just as qualified. They deserve any extra time that we can give them to take them to the library, the museum, the local science center, or to visit a college campus. Its never too early for them to walk through the campuses and absorb the sights and sounds of these institutions of higher learning. All of the things mentioned are either FREE or heavily discounted. After all, our children?s futures are priceless, aren?t they?

BMWK, do you use learning aides in the summer with your children? What are your favorites tools to continue learning during the break?

Seagate forecasts weak first-quarter on slowing PC sales

(Reuters) - Hard drive maker Seagate Technology Plc projected first-quarter revenue below estimates on slowing PC sales and lower-than-expected growth in the company's enterprise segment.

Seagate said it expects first-quarter sales of about $4 billion, less than the $4.62 billion expected by analysts, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Chief Executive Steve Luczo on a conference call with analysts cited slowing economic growth and shaky sales of personal computers as consumers shift toward tablets and smartphones for the slowing sales growth.

The company's shares fell 9 percent in extended trading. They had closed at $30.43 on Monday on the Nasdaq.

Fourth-quarter results also came in below expectations as a supplier issue affected shipments, which the company had warned Wall Street about.

The company's profit rose to $2.37 per share, or $1.01 billion, from 28 cents, or $119 million, a year earlier.

Revenue jumped 57 percent to $4.48 billion.

Excluding one-time charges, the company earned $2.41 per share.

Analysts on average had expected a profit of $2.51 per share on $4.56 billion in revenue, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Seagate earlier this month said it would not meet its own revenue guidance for the quarter as it shipped less hard disks to high-margin enterprise customers.

Seagate's results come in contrast to rival Western Digital Corp, which trumped expectations and guided a strong fiscal 2013 on the back of enterprise sales.

Seagate and Western Digital together command over 90 percent of the hard-drive market.

China men's gymnastics team wins gold; U.S. 5th

LONDON ? The Chinese men, who seemed sluggish and unenthusiastic when they qualified only sixth among the eight teams that advanced to the gymnastics team final, came out Monday with fist-pumping enthusiasm and finished with arms linked after owning the pommel horse on their last rotation and defending the Olympic gold medal they had won four years ago in Beijing.

While the fans jam-packed Greenwich Arena yelled and clapped and danced and celebrated what seemed to be a team silver medal for Great Britain in the?men's team gymnastics final, judges were huddled and whispering and reviewing the final score awarded to three-time world all-around champion Kohei Uchimura of Japan on his final pommel horse routine.

After Uchimura had dismounted, the final?standings?had China winning gold, Great Britain?silver and Ukraine bronze, with the stunned favorites from Japan appearing downcast and staring at their hands.

But after nearly five minutes of the scoreboard reading "inquiry" into Uchimura's score, a new finish was posted. China won the gold medal, Japan vaulted?into the silver medal spot and Great Britain?was down to bronze, still its first team medal since 1912. Ukraine was put into fourth place and its athletes?were covering their faces as they saw the news.

It didn't affect the?U.S. team that had easily won the qualifying competition but?put out an error-strewn performance Monday that left it in fifth place, two spots below where it had finished both in?the Beijing Olympics and at the 2011 world championships.?

[For the record, 11:25 a.m. July 30: An earlier version of this post based on initial? scoring by Olympic officials had the order as China first followed by Great Britain, Ukraine, Japan and the U.S. The actual order of finish was China, Japan, Great Britain, Ukraine and the U.S.]

The Longform Guide to Uncooperative Subjects

Gay Talese ? Esquire ? April 1966

Talese never got an interview with Ol? Blue Eyes, but, as he told his editor, after three months of reporting he may have gotten something more elusive: ?the truth about the man.?

?A part of Sinatra, no matter where he is, is never there. There is always a part of him, though sometimes a small part that remains Il Padrone. Even now, resting his shot glass on the blackjack table, facing the dealer, Sinatra stood a bit back from the table, not leaning against it. He reached under his tuxedo jacket into his trouser pocket and came up with a thick but clean wad of bills. Gently he peeled off a one-hundred-dollar bill and placed it on the green-felt table. The dealer dealt him two cards. Sinatra called for a third card, overbid, lost the hundred.

?Without a change of expression, Sinatra put down a second hundred-dollar bill. He lost that. Then he put down a third, and lost that. Then he placed two one-hundred-dollar bills on the table and lost those. Finally, putting his sixth hundred-dollar bill on the table, and losing it, Sinatra moved away from the table, nodding to the man, and announcing, ?Good dealer.? ?

Syria SNC to mull transitional government 'within weeks'

DUBAI (Reuters) - The head of the Syrian National Council (SNC), the main umbrella group for opponents of President Bashar al-Assad, said on Sunday that talks would be held within weeks to form a transitional government that would in time replace Assad's ministerial team.

Abdelbasset Sida, president of the SNC, said such a government would run the country between Assad's ousting and democratic elections. Most of its members would be drawn from the opposition, but some members of the current Assad government might also be included, he added.

"This government should come about before the fall (of Assad) so that it presents itself as an alternative for the next stage," Sida told Abu Dhabi-based Sky News Arabia television in an interview broadcast on Sunday.

"The committees that we have set up have their own schedules. Obviously, the matter should be concluded within weeks."

"There are some elements in the current regime who are not bloodstained, who were not part of major corruption cases. We will discuss (including them) with other parties, but there should be a national consensus to accept them."

However, criticism about the SNC's legitimacy may complicate its efforts to form a transitional government.

It clearly backs the Free Syrian Army, despite having not always overtly supported it in the past.

But it has sometimes struggled to overcome internal divisions and critics have accused the Istanbul-based organization of being out of touch, overly influenced by Turkey, and not fully representative of the opposition.

INITIAL INVOLVEMENT OF TLAS RULED OUT

Visiting Abu Dhabi to meet United Arab Emirates officials, Sida did not say when exactly a transitional government might be formed, telling a news conference in the early hours of Sunday that he had discussed the idea with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahayan, UAE's foreign minister.

The SNC has set up two committees to discuss the idea; the first will communicate with the Free Syrian Army, the major rebel military group, while the second will deal with all other opposition groups, said Sida.

Last week, Brigadier General Manaf Tlas, one of the most senior defectors to flee Syria, said he would try to help unite Syria's fragmented opposition inside and outside the country in order to agree a roadmap for a power transfer.

Sida said he welcomed Tlas' defection, but said the general could not be involved in the early stages of organizing a transitional government.

"The dialogue and coordination have to first be with the Free Syrian Army and the various members of the Syrian opposition movements, and after that if there are some roles to be played by members who have defected, then so be it - but with the condition that there is an agreement between the Syrians about that."

Sida also ruled out the possibility of Tlas becoming head of a transitional government. "This has to be a person who can lead a national government and who has been committed to the revolution since the beginning," he said.

Dogswell recalls Catswell chicken jerky cat treats ... - Poisoned Pets

Dogswell?s cat treats withdrawn from market

Dogswell sent a letter today announced a forthcoming recall of ALL of their Catswell cat treat products made with chicken imported from China due to the presence of propylene glycol.

Brands include Catswell VitaKitty Chicken Breast Treats with Flaxseed and Vitamins, Catswell Happy Hips Chicken Treats with Glucosamine and Chondroiton, Catswell Breathies with Mint and Parsley and Catswell Shape-Up with L-Carnitine.

The recall was initiated after testing revealed the presence of propylene glycol, which has not been recognizes as an approved ingredient for cats by the U.S.?Food?and?Drug?Administration??(FDA). Or more specifically, the FDA has ruled propylene glycol in cat food to be ?in violation of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. 21CFR589.1001?.? So there.

Although Dogswell, famous for their claim for truth and transparency by publishing test results of their products online, only has said they found a ?limited amount? of propylene glycol in the cat treats.

Dogswell reports that until the products can be confirmed to FDA compliant, i.e.not contaminated, they are asking retailers to ?remove all affected and non-affected lot codes from the market?.

It is important to remember that ALL of Dogswell?s treat products for dogs as well as cats that contain chicken, duck or sweet potato are also imported from China.

The recall has not yet been officially announced, but Susan Thixton of TruthAboutPetFoods was kind enough to give me the heads up on this. Thanks Susan!

Poisoned Pets has had an acrimonious relationship with Dogswell over an article I wrote where veterinarians on VIN discussed the possibility that other treats, aside from chicken jerky treats for dogs, could pose a risk in pets as well. For example, cat treats and sweet potato treats, among others types of treats were discussed.

Should you wish to read the letter regarding the Catswell treats Dogswell sent to distributors and retailers, click here.

FDA tells a different story

A press release published on the FDA?s website later today tells a different story, recalling only Catswell VitaKitty brand and not the other brands mentioned in the letter Dogswell sent to their distributors and retailers. Read it here: Arthur Dogswell LLC Voluntarily Recalls Catswell Brand Vitakitty Chicken Breast With Flaxseed And Vitamins Because Of Possible Health Risk.

They announced that Dogswell are recalling 1051 cartons packed as either 10 or 50 packages per case of Catswell Brand VitaKitty Chicken Breast with Flaxseed and Vitamins because it ?has the potential? to contain propylene glycol.

?High levels of propylene glycol in the treats could result in serious injury to cats. The adverse health impacts could be reducing red blood cell survival time (anemia) and making the cells more susceptible to oxidative damage.?

According to the FDA the recall affects only VitaKitty Chicken Breast with Flaxseed and Vitamins lot codes affected are as follows: SEW12CH032701/03c and SEW12CH032702/03c with a best before date of 09/10/13 and 09/11/13, respectively (UPC code 8 84244 00057 2).

Go figure.

?A bit about proylene glycol

Most cat food producers stopped using propylene glycol in 1992 when data indicated a unique sensitivity of cats to propylene glycol. Specifically, studies found that propylene glycol when fed to cats can produce an abnormality known as ?Heinz body? in the cats? red blood cells and causes D-lactic acidosis.

In a final rule in 1996, FDA declared propylene glycol in or on cat food not generally recognized as safe. Propylene glycol is used as a moistening agent in many animal food applications, but not in cat food. Although propylene glycol is not used in cat food, the FDA still considers it ?generally recognized as safe? (GRAS) for use in human food and all animal foods other than for cats.

Bringing home silver and gold | Two Plus Four

We brought home silver and gold tonight. Wyandottes, that is, not Olympic medals.

(I know you wouldn?t put it past me to bring home medal-sounding breeds on the opening night of the Olympics, just because I love puns and irony, but that didn?t even cross my mind until after I brought them home and put them in their new home.)

Their names? Sylvie (the Silver Laced Wyandotte, who is white and black) and Goldie (the Gold Laced Wyandotte).

After being devastated by two losses this month, especially Wednesday morning?s debacle, last night Darin said we could replenish the flock. He?d hunted down some white Silkies that were being sold locally, and white Silkies were what I wanted for Mother?s Day, but I just can?t bring myself to have another Silkie just yet. I?m still sad over the loss of my little Tess.

So, instead, I found a listing for the Wyandottes and picked two up this evening. (I?m very attracted to bold graphic patterns lately and that?s evident in my pets too. lol.) The man selling them is someone I?ve met doing a story for work; he?s very, very nice and walked the kids and I around his property to see the ducks, sheep and little lambs born last night. They were so cute!

The other chickens were not so happy to see newbies, but that?s how it goes. Hopefully things will be fine soon, but there?s definitely a hierarchy.

That said, Roosevelt seems to be doing much better today. He was limping around and being very passive Wednesday and Thursday, but today he was back to being bossy and lost his pimp walk. I?ve never been so happy to see bossiness.

Reliably Democratic, Jewish vote gets Romney eye

WASHINGTON (AP) ? On a trip to Israel, Mitt Romney is trying to win over a tiny sliver of a small ? but powerful ? section of the American electorate. President Barack Obama is doing the same at home.

But while Romney's trip is unlikely to change the broader presidential campaign against Obama, he's hoping to close the gap among Jewish voters.

Yet for all the wooing of American Jews in presidential campaigns, those who say Israel's fate drives their vote make up 6 percent of a reliably Democratic bloc. The tiny numbers are overlaid with an outsize influence. Campaign donations from Jews or Jewish and pro-Israel groups account for as much as 60 percent of Democratic money, and groups such as the American Israel Public Affairs Committee can bring strong pressure on candidates.

"This is going to be a close election. We are in a tight, tight race," said Democratic pollster Jim Gerstein. "But this race will not swing on the Jewish vote."

The notion of being an American Jew has changed over the years. Jews have married outside their faith and ethnic enclaves have given way to integrated cities. In the process, Israel has faded as a driving issue in their homes and seems to have faded as a flashpoint in politics.

"They're disconnected from their ancestral roots," Hank Sheinkopf, a New York-based consultant, said of Jewish voters. "People are becoming less observant so they're less tied to Israel, less tied to their faith, less tied to their history."

In turn, Jewish voters look at the election through secular lenses. Although the campaign rhetoric skews toward them when the candidates talk about Israel, assuming that Jews vote based on U.S. policy toward Israel is a losing proposition.

Romney also needs to show his commitment to Israel because the reliably Republican evangelical Christian vote also holds candidates to account on that topic.

"Jewish Americans, like most Americans, have come to assume that mainstream politicians and elected officials will stand strongly with Israel so there's oftentimes no urgency that is reflected in the polling," said Robert Wexler, a former Democratic congressman from Florida whose district was heavily Jewish.

"Even partisan people who cherish the American-Israeli relationship cringe when Israel is used as a political football," said Wexler, who now leads the S. Daniel Abraham Center for Middle East Peace.

That hasn't stopped Romney.

"I think, by and large, you can just look at the things the president has done and do the opposite," Romney said earlier this year when asked about Israel.

Obama has riled his critics, including Romney, by urging the Israelis and the Palestinians to make good on their promises to bring peace to the troubled Middle East. Specifically, Obama publicly has chastised Israel for continuing to build housing settlements in disputed areas and has pressured both sides to begin a new round of peace talks based on the land borders established after the 1967 Arab-Israeli conflict.

That has raised the ire of groups such as AIPAC, which feel he's been disloyal to Israel. Obama's strained relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ? a longtime Romney friend ? hasn't helped that perception.

"The current administration has distanced itself from Israel and visibly warmed to the Palestinian cause," Romney told AIPAC's annual conference earlier this year, where Obama also spoke.

Previous presidents have sided with Israel on all points, at least in public.

"This is the most hostile president since the state of Israel was created," Romney supporter and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton said recently. "He's demonstrated that hostility right from the beginning of his administration."

Such language is designed to whittle away at the Democrats' long-held advantages and nip away at the 78 percent support Obama enjoyed among Jews on Election Day 2008.

The Gallup polling organization reported in June that Obama's standing slumped to 64 percent among Jews, while 29 percent favored Romney.

"They elected him with historic numbers but they have to look at how President Obama has handled the whole situation," said Rich Beeson, Romney's political director. "Voters can say, 'I've not made a mistake, but he has not lived up to what he promised and it's OK to (vote for someone else).' Every vote that we can peel off from Barack Obama helps."

That approach fuels the on-the-ground effort to continue Jewish voters' slide away from the Democratic fold. Romney allies at the Republican Jewish Coalition are planning a $6.5 million campaign to help GOP candidates, and Romney himself is looking to reach into Jewish communities in Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, North Carolina and Nevada.

But the Jewish vote won't make a difference in this election. Exit polls show Jewish voters typically make up between 2 percent and 4 percent of the electorate nationwide. In 2008, they were 2 percent of voters nationwide and Republican Sen. John McCain won just 21 percent of them.

In 2004, George W. Bush fared a bit better, winning 25 percent of the vote, the largest share of the Jewish vote any Republican has earned since 1988.

But that's not to say they don't have clout.

"Jews are less important as voters than they are as activists and contributors. Jews provide pretty close to half of the money available to Democratic candidates," said Benjamin Ginsburg, a political science professor at Johns Hopkins University.

And it's not as though Israel alone will even decide Jewish voters' preference. A survey earlier this year by the American Jewish Committee found only 6 percent of American Jews listed U.S.-Israel relations as their top priority. The economy was the top concern, at 29 percent, followed by health care, at 20 percent.

"When it comes to determining votes in the American Jewish community, it is not a safe assumption that Jews are single-issue constituency that cares only about Israel," said Jeremy Ben-Ami, president of J Street, a pro-Israeli group that criticizes U.S. policy as often too hawkish.

"Jews are just like all other Americans. They're fully integrated in the United States. They are concerned about their jobs, their kids' education and just like all other voters, the voting patterns and approval ratings move in the context of the larger race," Ben-Ami said.

Daniel Cormier gets Frank Mir for his final Strikeforce fight

Daniel Cormier has his final Strikeforce opponent, and its a UFC heavyweight. According to USA Today, former champion Frank Mir will fight Cormier, the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix champ, in a yet-to-be announced Strikeforce event in October or November. The fight will air on Showtime.

Mir's manager tweeted, "@thefrankmir just asked me to tweet for him "that he's very excited about this opportunity and is very grateful to the @ufc for making this fight happen."

Mir last fought at UFC 146, where he was knocked out by Junior dos Santos in the second round of a championship bout. Before the loss to JDS, Mir had wins over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Roy Nelson and Mirko Filipovic.

The match-up is an interesting one for Mir to take, as he has had difficulty with wrestlers in the past. Of the three losses in his last 10 fights, two came to fighters with significant wrestling backgrounds. Cormier is a two-time Olympic wrestler.

He was the surprise winner of the grand prix that started with Fedor Emelianenko and Alistair Overeem as the favorites. He beat Antonio Silva and Josh Barnett on the way to the championship. His record now stands at 10-0. After this bout, Cormier is expected to join the UFC, like every other heavyweight on the Strikeforce roster.

Who will take this bout? Speak up in the comments, on Facebook or Twitter.

For too many veterans, the ultimate defeat

CHAMPION, Ohio (Reuters) - On a warm summer afternoon in Champion, Ohio, Michael Ecker, a 25-year-old Iraq war veteran, called out to his father from a leafy spot in their backyard. Then, as the two stood steps apart, Michael saluted, raised a gun to his head and pulled the trigger.

"His eyes rolled back," his father, Matt, said softly as he recounted the 2009 suicide. "There was just nothing I could do."

Weeks before he killed himself, Michael received a letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs accusing him of "over-reporting" the extent of his psychiatric problems. It was the culmination of a long struggle that Ecker, diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury related to his service, had waged since returning home from the war to try to hold down a steady job, obtain VA disability benefits and resume a life as close to normal as possible.

"I've often thought about finding that doctor and saying, ?Over-reporting?!' and giving him the death certificate," Matt Ecker said.

About once every half hour in America, a veteran within the VA healthcare system tries to commit suicide, according to VA figures for fiscal year 2011.

President Barack Obama singled out suicide prevention as a priority when he talked about veterans issues on the campaign trail in 2008. He once cited the case of an 89-year-old World War II veteran who took his life the day after complaining about his treatment by the VA.

"It is an outrage. It is a betrayal of the ideals that we ask our troops to risk their lives for," Obama told an audience in Charleston, West Virginia, on May 12, 2008. He reiterated those sentiments at a Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Reno, Nevada, on Monday, saying he had told Pentagon chiefs and VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, "We've got to do better. ? This has to be all hands on deck."

In the nearly three years since Ecker's death, the Obama administration has expanded efforts to tackle suicide among veterans, some of which were initiated at the end of the Bush administration. It has hired more suicide prevention staff and enhanced tracking of high-risk patients. Other benefits meant to help veterans returning from war have been expanded, particularly educational benefits under the 2008 GI Bill.

Perhaps the most lauded part of the VA's ramped-up effort to combat suicide has been a hotline that has received more than half a million calls since it was created in 2007, including more than 20,000 rescues of suicidal veterans. More recently it launched an online chat service and text messaging.

The VA has sought to improve data collection, too, and the numbers appear troubling: In 2011 there were 17,754 suicide attempts -- about 48 a day -- up from 10,888 in 2009.

That increase, the VA said, may largely reflect an improved tracking system put into place in 2010 and a growing number of patients treated at VA facilities. The VA couldn't provide data on the number of suicides within the VA system after 2009, but the figures through that date show a broadly stable rate since 2003 that is higher than the national average.

Outside the VA healthcare system, which has almost 9 million enrollees, the data becomes murky. The VA has estimated that roughly 18 veterans nationwide kill themselves every day, but that number is based on limited data.

Reuters conducted its own survey, contacting all 50 states but obtaining data for the 2005-to-2010 period from only 32 of them, accounting for about two-thirds of the U.S. veteran population. In those states, veteran suicides increased from 4,801 to 5,017 over a five-year period in which, the VA believes, the U.S. veteran population declined slightly.

While the data is imperfect -- the VA estimates the reliability of such figures at 78 percent to 90 percent -- the department said the numbers appeared broadly consistent with trends it has observed.

Shinseki told Reuters in an interview that the problem of veteran suicide appeared to be linked to a broader question about mental health in the United States. He pointed to data showing suicide is the second-biggest cause of death for people ages 25 to 34 and the fourth-biggest cause for people 35 to 54.

"We got a problem. Is mental health an issue in this country? Nobody talks about it," Shinseki said.

A copy of the July 29, 2009, VA letter to Ecker reviewed by Reuters denied him an increase in his disability benefits from the $974 he was already receiving, citing "over-reporting (of) both mood disturbance and impaired memory difficulty."

"Mr. Ecker's death is a tragic outcome. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and loved ones," the VA said in response to Reuters inquiries. "Experience has shown that access to quality mental health services from VA can make a positive difference in the lives of veterans and their families."

Matt Ecker wonders daily whether his son's suicide could have been prevented had he received better treatment or found a job he could keep in his condition. Frustrated with the system, his son had declined treatment from the VA and had turned to a local doctor. He also wonders whether Michael might have done better if he had reenlisted. Going to war was risky. But, in Michael's case, so was coming home.

"It's just as dangerous, as it turns out, out here -- because of the lack of jobs, lack of everything," he said.

FRUGAL FITNESS: Free & Cheap Workouts, Nutrition, Wellness ...

Hey Frugal Fitness Fans! As an elite cheapskate and poor twenty-something, I knew I wanted to take the #SurviveOn35 Challenge of surviving and thriving (eating healthy) on a $35 food budget for a week. Why $35? Because that is about equivalent to the amount of government assistance a typical impoverished individual might receive, often in the form of food stamps. This challenge sheds light on the very serious hunger, health, and poverty problems we have in the United States, other 1st World nations, and all over the world. While there are some critics of the challenge, I think they are missing the point and that it is an excellent educational opportunity benefiting some great causes (food banks and Cooking Matters). If you couldn't tell from my websites and videos, I have always been very Frugal and I'm used to making the best out of minimal supplies. Sometimes this has been by choice or habit, but most of the time it has really been out of necessity just to survive in a tough world and a tough economy.?I have always made it my mission to prove to others that they can in fact eat healthy even while on a very tight budget.
I have never had or made much money, and have often earned at or below the legal poverty levels for annual income. Please understand that I don't take this challenge lightly at all or consider it a publicity stunt. This is an accurate depiction of my life nearly every week of the year. I empathize greatly with others that struggle to pay basic bills and hope to help those that are even more financially distressed than myself. I think my purchases are excellent examples of foods and products containing large amounts of lean and complete protein, fiber, whole grains, antioxidants, heart healthy fats, micronutrients, and electrolytes as well as maximizing longevity, portability, and simplicity. I even made sure to hit all of the stores in one 4 mile drive so to not waste time or gas.

My approach to eating on a very small budget seems to be significantly different from most of the other participants in this program. While I am all for tons of fruits and vegetables, I also take the macronutrients and calories very seriously. Also, as a man and a natural bodybuilder / powerlifter, I ?require more calories than some other participants and I am also focused on minimizing bodyfat while maintaining as much lean muscle as possible (survival comes first though). That means enough protein and healthy fat. I am a 165 lb man so I require more calories and protein than some of the other entrants, but everyone has different genetics, goals, time and resources for cooking, and food preferences.
Also, I am a minimalist when it comes to meals and recipe ingredients. I like it quick, simple, and on the go if possible. Minimal time, preparation, and cleanup, are very important when I am spending a lot of time working to try and make ends meet. So you won't find extremely complex recipes or meals here, just a lot of healthy snacks and simple staple healthy meals, designed for eating small meals around 6 times per day. And yes, like Jerry Seinfeld before me, I like cereal and breakfast foods at all times of day and therefore utilize a lot of (Kashi) cereal and oatmeal! I like versatile foods and I like snacking foods so there are plenty of those in here that fit that description along with being healthy and cost-effective.

Nutritional Strategies Utilized

So as I mentioned earlier, I have all of these foods chosen for specific nutritional reasons in addition to their low cost. It also matters how you eat them and pair them up. I eat 6 times per day, spread out, never a huge amount of calories at once, and usually getting a good mix of complex carbohydrates, lean protein, and heart healthy unsaturated fats in each meal. I consume more calories in the first portion of the day when my metabolism is at its highest. A lot of the food choices that I made have relatively low GI (Glycemic Index) values which means they won't spike my blood sugar and provide long-lasting energy throughout the day. They also have a lot of protein, fiber, and heart healthy fat in them to keep me feeling satiated. These simple yet effective strategies help translate to staying full, energized, lean, and healthy!Nutritional Value of Foods Purchased

The 2 gallons of skim milk allow me to have over 18 oz of milk per day for excellent sources of complete protein, calcium, Vitamin D, and potassium. The Kashi cereals provided plenty of high quality whole grains for complex carbs, fiber, protein, antioxidants, and pretty low amounts of sugar and fat. The spinach gave me several salads throughout the week and providing Vitamin A, fiber, and antioxidants. The cans of tuna, chicken, and turkey gave me cheap lean additional protein for my salads. The fat free cheese was also used on the salads for more lean complete protein and extra calcium and vitamin D. I even had some left over after salads and just ate it out of the bag by hand! The coffee was for some extra daily caffeine (with cinnamon and skim milk) to enhance metabolism, and so was the green tea which also added high amounts of the antioxidant ECGC twice daily. The JIF Natural Peanut Butter, sunflower seeds, and roasted peanuts provided plenty of heart-healthy unsaturated fats, fiber, micronutrients, and protein. The bananas and apples both provided antioxidants, fiber, and electrolytes. And finally, the sweet potato chips and honey wheat sticks provided some snacking options that were low in sugar and saturated fat (and also another salad topping).?

Daily Meal Example:
(Because I am a man of habit and simplicity, all of my daily eating patterns were like this throughout the week)

Breakfast:
-Coffee with Skim Milk and
-8 oz Glass of Skim Milk
-Cup of Kashi Heart To Heart Warm Cinnamon w/ 1/2 Apple Slices, skim milk, & 1 bag of crushed peanuts

Snack #1:
-Handful of sunflower seeds and handful of Kashi cereal
OR?
-Scoop of natural peanut butter & banana or apple
-Handful of honey wheat sticks
-Water

Lunch:
-Green tea
-Spinach Salad w/ can of Chicken / Turkey / Tuna + Sunflower Seeds, Fat Free Cheese, & Crushed Sweet Potato Chips

OR

-Kashi Crisp Cereal with 1/2 apple or banana and skim milk

Snack #2:
-Handful of sweet potato chips
OR
-TBSP Peanut Butter with toasted oats

-Green tea

Dinner:
1.5 cups of Oatmeal with 1/2 banana and cinnamon

Snack #3:
-8 oz glass of skim milk
-1 tsp JIF Natural PB

*Lots of free tap water daily!!!! 96 oz daily spread out throughout the day

Leftovers:

So I used up a lot of things by the 7th day but I still have plenty of left over Oatmeal, Instant Coffee, and Green Tea (oh and my landlord pays the water bill...well not hot water but you know what I mean haha)! I also had a bit of fat free cheese that I just finished by hand right out of the bag, 'cause I'm classy like that! :) These are all super-frugal items that will last you a long time and get you plenty of bang for your buck!

Possible Improvements/Modifications:

Although I love the products, I think I should have eliminated the Kraft Fat Free Cheese or JIF Peanut Butter, and 1 of the Kashi Cereals, to have freed up about $5.75 to be put towards more salad and additional fruit variety. I still had a good week of nutrition and plenty of fiber / antioxidants but in hindsight I would have made those adjustments. This would have also helped if you were watching your sodium intake or trying to eat more of a Paleo diet. And lastly, I would have utilized that extra .48 to buy another banana! :)

Conclusion:

This past week was certainly another great experience in my Frugal Life. Although I am always on a very tight budget, this week really made me tighten my finances and lifestyle to fully empathize with those that are in even worse financial situations than myself. I didn't indulge in some of the "extras" for food products that weren't completely necessary so it certainly got me more disciplined. I walked to stores and meetings even more often than usual and tried to give back to the community what I could spare. I would like to reiterate that this is a very personal matter for me and really hope that it has helped to educate and inspire you to improve your nutrition, work as best you can with the budget you have, and to help the impoverished and hungry communities of the world.

Removing colon polyps tied to lower cancer risk -Colon & Colorectal ...

People who have had risky, possibly pre-cancerous polyps removed from their colon may be able to wait up to five years until their next colonoscopy, a new study from Germany suggests.

Recommendations from the American Cancer Society and other organizations call for a follow-up colonoscopy three years after large or risky adenomas are removed to check for further signs of cancer.

Extending that timeframe to five years may mean more colonoscopies could be done in people who really need them - such as older adults who?ve never been screened for colon cancer, researchers wrote Monday in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. The procedures run about $1,000.

But researchers not involved in the new study argued that it?s too early to loosen the timeline for follow-up colon exams.

"Patients with high-risk polyps are at increased risk for developing colon cancer and their tumors may grow faster,? said Dr. Benjamin Lebwohl, who studies colon cancer screening at Columbia University Medical Center in New York.

?This study provides a measure of reassurance to patients and gastroenterologists,? he told Reuters Health. ?It appears that those patients with high-risk polyps were similarly protected against colon cancer even beyond the three-year interval.?

Still, ?I think it?s premature to interpret these results as saying that we can relax all intervals,? Lebwohl said.

For the new study, Dr. Hermann Brenner of the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg and his colleagues compared 2,600 patients with colon cancer - including 160 who?d had colon polyps removed in the last decade - with 1,800 similar people without cancer, 264 of whom had a history of adenoma removal.

As expected, the researchers found that having risky polyps taken out in the last three years was tied to a lower chance of colon cancer: Those patients were 60 percent less likely to be diagnosed with cancer than people who hadn?t had a previous colonoscopy.

And the benefits of prior screening and polyp removal held up for people who?d had the procedure three to five years ago, and had half the risk of cancer as their unscreened peers.

The findings were consistent for men and women as well as both younger and older patients, the researchers reported.

Brenner and his colleagues concluded that ?extension of surveillance intervals to five years should be considered, even after detection and removal of high-risk polyps.?

In people who haven?t had polyps found before, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends screening for colon cancer using colonoscopy every 10 years, or with other methods more frequently. That guideline from the government-backed panel applies to people age 50 to 75.

?There?s no question colonoscopy prevents colon cancer - this is very much a matter of how to fine-tune this effective tool,? Lebwohl said.

Dr. Gregory Cooper, a gastroenterologist from University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, agreed with Lebwohl that the results should be interpreted with caution.

He noted that the researchers looked back at patient records to compare those with or without colon cancer, rather than tracking cancer-free patients forward and seeing who got the disease, which is considered a more reliable technique.

?I wouldn?t necessarily change practice based on this paper,? Cooper, who also wasn?t tied to the new study, told Reuters Health.

?Until we have better evidence, the interval should stay at three years for the high-risk (patients),? he said.

After a colonoscopy, Cooper added, it?s not always clear to patients what they should be doing in terms of follow-up.

So people who had polyps removed during their procedure should make sure to have a discussion with their primary care doctor or the person who did the colonoscopy about when they?re due back, he advised.

Risk of Colorectal Cancer After Detection and Removal of Adenomas at Colonoscopy: Population-Based Case-Control Study

Results Adjusted odds ratios (95% CIs) of CRC for participants with polypectomy less than 3, 3 to 5, and 6 to 10 years ago (using participants without previous endoscopy as reference group) were 0.2 (0.2 to 0.3), 0.4 (0.3 to 0.6), and 0.9 (0.5 to 1.5), respectively. Strong, significant risk reduction within 5 years was consistently seen for women and men, younger and older participants, patients with and without high-risk polyps (three or more polyps, at least one polyp ? 1 cm, at least one polyp with villous components), and those with and without polypectomy in the right colon. With adjusted odds ratios of 0.1 (0.1 to 0.2), 0.3 (0.2 to 0.5) and 0.4 (0.2 to 0.8) for patients with polypectomy less than 3, 3 to 5, and 6 to 10 years ago, risk reduction was particularly strong for left-sided CRC.

Conclusion Extension of surveillance intervals to 5 years should be considered, even after detection and removal of high-risk polyps.

Jaimie Etkin: 'Pretty Little Liars' Recap: Mona Gets Crazier And A Code Points To Maya

Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Season 3, Episode 7 of ABC Family's "Pretty Little Liars," entitled "Crazy."

Just as Hanna's on the phone with her mom, saying that no one is coming over, there's a knock at the back door. It's Wilden, who didn't get the front door memo. "Why do they all have glass doors?" my mom asks of the Liars' living spaces. "You know what they say about people you live in glass houses." I mean, I do, but I'm not sure how this applies here. I appreciate her effort nonetheless.

Wilden tells Hanna that the new blood sample matches her's -- O negative. And that she needs to come in for a blood test. She denies it could be hers, but a sassy Wilden replies, "Then why do you look so scared?"

Hanna is telling the girls about Wilden on Rosewood's only block and they say not to worry. Spencer says she'll talk to Jason about his family slamming Wilden to find a suspect. But Hanna can't talk about it anymore. She has to go to school. That might be the biggest bunch of bulls--- ever on this show.

While the Prettiest Biggest Liar storms off, Aria, Spencer and Emily enter The Brew and hear a voice that sounds a lot like Ali's at the counter. She turns around and though she has the blonde hair-blue eye thing going on, it's clear she's not Ali.

Turns out, she's Cece, whose family rented a summer home in Cape May near Ali's family's house. She even dated Jason. But then she moved to LA. Though Aria, Spencer and Emily have never heard of Cece, she knows all about them. Apparently, Ali talked about all of them a lot. Cece says Ali was going through a rough time when they were friends, comparing her to "a broken doll." But before she can give too much info, Cece has to go back to work at the boutique across the street, which is probably bustling on a weekday morning on Rosewood's one block. They wonder if Cece is like Ali or if Ali was like Cece, but mostly, they're weirded out she knows their secrets, just like Ali did. My mom, on the other hand, doesn't see the Ali connection, especially since "she looks like she's 30."

Aria apparently finally gets to school and sees her mom opening a garment bag with a slutty dress inside. "Does she live in her classroom?" my mom wonders. A valid question. "That dress is really ugly," she continues. "She probably got it at Frederick's of Hollywood." A not quite as valid remark. Ella confesses to Aria about her date that night. They have girl talk -- it's nauseating. They discuss fashion options and though Ella notes Aria "wears forks as earrings," she listens to Aria's one tip: Don't wear a scarf. (Note: My mom loves scarves, a fact she does not disclose as we chat throughout this entire episode.)

Outisde of school, where every high schooler should be, Spencer is snooping in a yearbook and making some sort of crazy Ali map and wearing some sort of crazy lumberjack stiletto boots. "Oh! Spencer has go go boots. Her boots were made for walking," my mom says. Toby comes up and asks why Spencer's been avoiding him. "Did the Tobmeister drop out of high school? I forget -- or is he home schooled by his imaginary parents?" my mom wonders. (I don't have an answer since school is tertiary -- if that -- on this show. So if you do, please fill us in in the comments.)

Anyway, Spencer lets Toby know what's going on and why she's spending so much time with Jason. He thinks maybe she shouldn't be so certain it's Garrett and then urges her to get to class. At least SOMEBODY cares about this girl's education.

Nate (who's really having a hard time leaving Rosewood evidently) goes up to his "favorite barista" at The Brew -- perhaps Emily never made it to school. He has a candle for her to sniff ... for Jenna. "It looks like a Yahrzeit candle," my mom says of the Jewish memorial candle. (Clearly, she's upping the references that only people who went to Hebrew school would understand.) Emily's ready to shut down the convo with Nate and simply says Jenna will like it. "She has a highly developed sense of smell," Emily says relatively disgustedly. But Nate wants her help. Apparently, Jenna told Nate that she was good friends with Emily and Maya, who she said drove her home from school a couple times.

Hanna and Aria get home from school -- long day -- and there's a Ouija board sitting on Hanna's kitchen counter. It has all the letters crossed out except the A, which is circled in red. Hanna goes to pick up the planchette -- a word I learned this episode thanks to Aria -- and gets pricked by the pins on the opposite side. On the bottom of the planchette, there's a typed note: "See how easy it is for me to get your blood?"

Hanna starts freaking out. Aria asks what the Ouija board means, but Hanna says she doesn't know ... until Aria pushes further. It was what she buried with Ali, she admits. Her and Mona played with it just days before Ali's body was discovered.

Cue flashback: Hana's isn't into the Ouija board, but Mona wants to play. She asks if the spirits know what happened to Ali, despite Hanna's objections. The planchette starts to move and it spells out A-L-I-V-E. Cue thunder and lightning as Hanna looks up and sees a vision of Ali, but the most disturbing part of this, is that Hanna's nails are without polish.

Back in the present, Aria thinks Mona planned the whole thing, since she was A and all, and is determined to go talk to her to find out who else she told that story to. Suddenly, a potted plant slams agains the glass door. S---'s getting scary and yeah, maybe those in glass houses ... you know.

Spencer runs into Jason outside of school and they talk about the anklet. "Oh god. Jason and his hair -- so greasy," my mom complains. "And this 'do is as dumb-looking as the other one." When I say, "It's half-Biebery," she's quick to defend Justin: "Which half? Biebs washes his." Touche.

Jason's pissed and giving up the search for Ali's killer after the anklet debacle. He says he's done looking for answers, but he does have to look for his dad at the airport later since he's coming into town.

Spencer brings up Cece and asks about the "intense" summer she mentioned. Jason says everything with Ms. Cece Drake is intense. "Did it end on a bad note?" Spencer wonders. "You could say that," he says, before running off. "The new 'do makes his ears stick out," my mom says, relentlessly.

Apparently, Emily agreed to go Jenna gift shopping with Nate at the new Rosewood boutique and Cece is trying to push some wallet that Rachel Zoe loves on him. Cece pulls Emily aside and asks what's going on between them and why she's not into the gift purchasing. Soon, she realizes Emily's "the one ... with the giant crush on Ali." Em tells Cece she's just upset Nate wants to go out with Jenna, but before she can fill her in on the Blind Little Liar, Nate calls her over to check out some more possible gifts. "Did you notice that art work of the baby with three eyes," my mom asks. No. No, I did not.

Nate picks up a pair of earrings that Maya had. Emily asks how he knows Maya owned them and he suspiciously says he "must of seen them in a picture or something." Nate quickly changes the subject and we find out he wishes "the hottest girl in Rosewood" (i.e. Emily) "likes guy" (i.e. is straight). "Ooooh snap," my mom adds.

Emily decides to tell Nate about Jenna dating Garrett and he seems to worry about Jenna almost being another victim like Maya, instead of getting the hint that she's not as perfect as he thinks. Oh, Em.

Ella walks into the brew in her slutty dress (which elicits an "OMG" from my mom) and starts flirting with the barista with the fresh pastries and plastic gloves. She tells him she's going on a first date. Enter Pastor Ted, which led me to audibly laugh. "Ted is quite the womanizer," my mom says. Is there an Ella/Ashley catfight in our future? One can only hope. Anyway, they decide to head out for ice cream instead of coffee. But as they eat their dessert, Ella seems disturbed by something ... and it's not the church talk.

Aria's at Radley and magically, Mona's visitation rights have been changed (we saw A do it earlier this season) -- she can head is as long as she leaves her bag, any lighters, matches, and her earrings at the desk, says the nurse. "That nurse look like that Spanish teacher who painted on her eyebrows," my mom says. ( Upside down exclamation mark. Shout out to, Senora Corrasco!)

But the nurse has to supervise their visit and Mona is creepily composed. "So, would you like to play a game?" she asks. Mona's building a giant house of cards and starts talking about the importance of a strong foundation. She asks the nurse to get her meds so she can ask Aria why she's really there. Aria is quick to tell Mona about the Ouija board and planchette on Hanna's kitchen table that was taken from Ali's grave. She tells Mona to think about Hanna and begs her to tell her who's trying to hurt her. Aria is laying down the law in an incredibly bad ass fashion when Lisa returns with the drugs. She says visiting hours are over, but before she can pull Mona and her giant cardigan away, Mona says: "It's not me. Tell Hanna I'm sorry." I was really hoping Aria would smash down cards. But despite my "do it" chanting, no dice.

Though it looks frighteningly dark at Radley, it's apparently a sunny day in Rosewood. Spencer tells Hanna her mom's going to try to get a court order and a nervous Hanna sees Ali's dad and Jason's pull up. She seems to be even more uneasy now.

Hanna decides to go over to Mr. DeLaurentis and apologizes for what she did and says she has nothing to do with Ali's body being taken. He doesn't accept her apology (for what, we're still not sure) and starts speaking to her very sternly. "At the time, it seemed like a childish prank. Seems like you've gotten crueler with age," he says before turning his back on her.

Then Hanna decides to drive to Radley and she sees Aria storming out of the building into the now very dark night. Hanna's not satisfied with what Mona told her so she decides to sneak into Radley -- and Aria's going with her even though she's quick to saucily tell her, "Visiting hours are over."

Emily's leaving The Brew when she runs into Cece, who asks what happened with Nate. Emily tells her and she says Em should take her number for some bizarre reason. Emily does, but Cece -- in a very Ali-like fashion -- instead calls Jenna and tell her she's Nate's girlfriend and she better back off or Cece's going to scratch her eyes out. Emily's quick to tell her that Jenna was blind, but Cece says, "Well, it needed to be done." (Sidebar: She also asks if Jason is still single. My mom gags.)

Apparently, Ella's date that was not so good with Pastor Ted went well into the night and she heads back to The Brew, looking for Aria via Emily, only to find the flirty barista who is again offering her pastries. He reveals he's Zack, the owner of The Brew, and he asks her to stay. My mom's response to Ella's giggle? "Vomit ... She is missing the bottom part of her dress, unless it's a romper."

Back at Radley, which gives my mom "the willies," Hanna and Aria sneak into Mona's room pretty seamlessly. She's sitting straight up in a chair and plays clueless with Hanna, who's not buying. Alison's dad's back, she says, and she's the only one who knows about the night she saw Ali. Mona pressures her to tell Aria about why Ali's dad is really angry and we flashback to Hanna and Mona walking around Rosewood.

Mona tells Hanna about their new code in which the letter of each word spells at the word they mean to say. So "she lives under trees" equals slut, which is apropos because there's a missing poster of Ali on the tree they're standing near. Suddenly, a car pulls up and Ali's dad rushes towards them while Jason follows. He yells at Hanna for giving Ali's mom hope and urges her to stay from his family.

Hanna confesses to Aria in the present that she night with the Ouija board, when she saw Ali on the patio, she called Ali's mom and told her Ali was alive, only to learn her body was discovered just three days later. But when she's done with the story, they realize, now, it's Mona who's gone.

Spencer's on the road and sees Jason's car rush by and crash right in front of her. She gets out and sees he's drunk so she pushes him over and takes the wheel. "This never happened," she tells him as she pulls out of his incredibly horrible parrell parking job, leaving her car, with the driver's door ajar, on the side of the road.

When she gets home, she tries to tell Toby what happened, but suddenly there's a knock on the back door. Of course, it's Wilden and another officer, who wonder why her car was left on the side of road. Toby covers for her and they leave, but Wilden's not buying it. Spencer confesses everything to Toby and asks him to promise not to tell about the drunk driving incident because he could lose everything. (What is "everything? exactly?)

Back at Radley, Hanna and Aria are looking for Mona when they see a door partly ajar. Then they see a lock on the door that's been picked open with the tweezers Hanna used on Mona during her sanitarium makeover session. They sneak in and hear humming, which they follow, because apparently they've never seen a scary movie. "JESUS," I say emphatically. "He's with Ted the pastor," my mom retorts.

Aria and Hanna walk through a creepy abandoned basement with giant cribs until they reach Mona's who brushing the porcelain hair of a doll who has no hair. Then she starts repeating partially non-sensical phrases over and over.

"Miss Aria, you're a killer, not Ezra's Wife."

"Where were we? Maya's away sleeping sweet. Until Garrett's all rosy, count on me."

Mona barely acknowledges them, but Hanna begs her to tell them what she knows. Then, they hear nurses looking for Mona so Hanna and Aria duck into a closet.

"No one to save Ali from evil," she says repeatedly before the nurses reach her.

"I missed my dolls," Mona says as the nurses take her upstairs, still repeating the non-sentence sentences.

Back at home in sweatpants and bunny sweatshirt, Ella and Aria talk on the phone about her not one, but two dates. The first one, she confesses, wasn't great ... solely because he ate ice cream like Byron. Aria climbs in bed with Hanna, who's obviously petrified to stay at her house tonight, and tells her mom she's definitely wearing a scarf next time. They hang up and she tells Hanna "she's a slut" (a.k.a. "she lives under trees"). Easily, my mom's favorite line.

Before they go to bed, Hanna looks at another creepy-looking doll next to Aria's bed and I Carrie Bradshawedly can't help but wonder, "Why doesn't anyone on this show have a non-old-timey doll?" My mom asks me the same thing at the same time. Seriously ... Where are the American Girls and Cabbage Patch Kids?!

Emily's still traipsing around Rosewood and sees an abandoned Nate at the restaurant. Clearly, Jenna never showed. Thanks, Cece.

Hanna can't sleep and starts looking at that 1950s doll. She remembers what Mona kept saying and the code they once head. Emily and Spencer head over to Aria's (despite the near midnight hour, which upsets my mom). Hanna fills them in on how the code worked and Spencer's freakishly quick to realize, "No one to save Ali from evil" spells out "Not safe."

The other phrase -- about Maya and Garrett -- spells out a website:

www.masssugar.com (M.A.S. being Maya's initials, Emily explains.)

When they go to the site, they see a picture of Maya giving the Lindsay Lohan/Miley Cyrus peace sign with the text, "What's the magic word?" beneath the photo. Then, a pop up box comes up asking for the password, which no one knows. Aria wonders aloud: "Did she mean Maya wasn't safe or we're not?"

In the black-gloved epilogue, we see A moving through the Children's Ward at Radley until s/he reaches the dolls Mona was playing with. The glove pops off one doll's head to reveal a recorder that has the entire Aria, Spencer and Hanna interaction in the basement on tape.

Okay. Now breathe. And it's okay if you peed your pants. This episode was so crazy and really yell-worthy (i.e. SCARY). My mom and I decide we're going to talk about people like this for a long time, if only we were smart enough to do so.

Quotes (were few and far between this episode, but most shockingly go to Aria)
"Who is he, where does he live and what is the hair situation?"- Aria

"Friends don't let friends sneak into insane asylum's alone."- Aria

"It's not like you shot a unicorn. You're helping your friend out."- Cece

"You gave tweezers to a mental patient."- Aria

"How many times did I tell you to lock your door, Spence? It's not the 1950s."- Toby

"I don't suppose crazy slipped you the password as well."- Spencer (she had to have one)
